Education in Kerala: An overview
17 AprilEducation in Kerala got its face as of today during the British rule in India by Catholic and Christian missionaries. They were keen on providing education to all sections of society and strengthening of women, without any kind of discrimination. Kerala’s high literacy rate is attributed to high girl literacy rate as it says when a women is educated she will make sure that her children are well educated. It should be noted that Kerala topped the Education Development Index (EDI) among 21 major states in India in year 2006-2007
Schools and colleges in Kerala are mostly run by the government, private trusts, or individuals. Each school is affiliated with either the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), Kerala State Education Board or the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). English is the language of instruction in most private schools, while government run schools offer English or Malayalam as the medium of instruction. Government run schools in the districts bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu also offer instruction in Kannada or Tamil languages. A handful of Government Sanskrit Schools provide instruction in Sanskrit supplemented by Malayalam, English, Tamil or Kannada. After 10 years of secondary schooling, students typically enroll at Higher Secondary School in one of the three streams—liberal arts, commerce or science. Upon completing the required coursework, students can enroll in general or professional degree programmes.

MBA from India or Abroad ?
16 April‘The choices you make decide the life you lead’.
When it’s time for you to decide upon your MBA, you’re definitely standing on the threshold of a very important junction in your life. The decision can either build it for you or spoil it for you it’s all a matter of one choice that you make. So, what exactly is the ideal choice? Should I pick my MBA from India or head abroad? Is that a question running on your mind too?
Well, if anybody knows your best pick, it’s you! .
Here a few pointers to keep in consideration while picking your choice amongst MBA in India or abroad.
What do you wish to do?
Pick your MBA based what exactly you wish to achieve in your career. While a few colleges may be known for an MBA in International Business, there may be a few others specializing in Finance and Risk Management. While comparing India v/s abroad, keep your decision strongly based upon the area of specialization and not the destination/location. Is your goal India oriented or global?
Rankings and global recognition
Take note of the rankings and global recognitions of your possible choices. Not many Indian colleges are globally accredited and that’s the sad reality. Ensure your MBA is accredited enough to pave your career path right.
Cost
Education comes with a price tag attached to it. An MBA abroad is sure to be many times expensive than anywhere in India. But, if you’re ready to bear the cost factor, there’s ample choice for you to pick from. Many international colleges also offer an opportunity of fee waivers and scholarships for international students and that may work out well in your case too. An MBA abroad may cost you anywhere from Rs. 20 to 50 lakh, whereas an Indian MBA will set you back by Rs. 5 to 20 lakh.
What are the other options that you have?
Would you rather do it from a top-rung Indian institute, like the IIMs? Well, the answer totally depends on your aspirations.
If you’ve cracked the CAT, go for it. The IIMs are among the best in the world. However, if you have to choose between IIM and a top institute like Harvard or London Business School, it makes sense to choose the latter. The exposure and contacts that you’ll get in a top school are simply unmatchable. An M.B.A. from a top-rung B-school will almost certainly propel you in the global job market, and you’ll soon be on your way to the top of the ladder.
If your choice is between a mid-tier B-school abroad and an average Indian institute, it makes IMMENSE sense to go abroad. The mid-tier schools abroad offer much better career prospects. An MBA from a mid-range U.S. B-school also has fairly healthy prospects, given the buoyant state of the US economy in the last few years.
If you have close relatives abroad, who can help you with funds and/or getting you an employment on completion of your MBA, you are in an enviable position. However, make sure you talk to the relatives before you apply.
